Women Committee Fans Social Action.

-October 19th, 2005:

After many fruitful activities, Sagesse Women Fans Committee has decided to expand their goals, from feminin and feminist purposes, to a much greater one that involves the entire society. As a matter of fact, the Committee is currently working on its very own "Monthly social project", where once a month, the members will be visiting association for the elder ones, chronic diseases support centers, orphanages and less fortunate people.

The new project was launched on the rainy Wednesday October 19th, 2005: Nicole Hallak (Committee's president), Nadia Safi (PR Head), Rita Younes (Supervisor) and Eliane Frem (Delegate) visited the young children at the St.Jude Cancer Center.

At 10 am, the kids were starting to gather in the warm center. While waiting for some to finish their treatment sessions, the members studied with the others, chatted with them and helped some with their breakfast. Everyone gathered then in the colorful room where the committee members led the kids through some prepared games. Laughter and fun continued till around 1 pm when the kids had to leave to rest. Candy bags and balloons where distributed to all along with an invitation to a coming Sagesse basketball game, an expectation that thrilled the kids!

It was a great get-together and an even greater experience for the committee members who volunteered for a day in the center and got to meet the children. "It's about time that the youngsters care about social issues, as it is in their power to make a difference and make this world a better place for everyone", confirmed the Committee members.
Work will not stop here as promised Sagesse Women Fans Committee members, promising the fans and everyone who might benefit from their social activity that more events and actions will occur to bring help and relief where needed.

Women Committee Fans Social Action.

-November 16th, 2005:

After their successful first social visit to the St. Jude Cancer Center and the first appearance of the "Green Zone" magazine, the Sagesse Female Fans Committee proceeds with its projects, and more specifically with their social mission.

It was on Wednesday November 16th that 5 members (Nicole Hallak, Elida Daou, Rita Younes, Eliane Frem and Jessica Khoury) accompanied by the mean green's coach Scott Fields, visited the St. Georges Nursing home in Achrafieh.
Arriving at 2 pm, home's director Mrs. Maha Abou Chawareb welcomed the members and walked them through a 45 minutes orientation devoted to the different ways of dealing with old people, their social background, different problems they suffer from, the possible diseases, their rights, history and present.
Then the visitors where divided into two groups heading to different floors, where they sat with the eldest. The latters were so thrilled by the visit that they started telling the members about the reasons that brought them to the home, friendships made, old loves lost and new people met.

Later on, it was the delegation members turn to tell stories, as the eldest where curious to know about Sagesse and its preparations in both teams. What was nicely surprising is the fact that some people were familiar with old Sagesse football players from the 50's and 60's.

When the chatting ended, the members visited the rooms, as the eldest where eager to share pictures, memories and stories, showing their rooms where some members helped in tiding it up. Visits here also made to the people who couldn't leave their rooms.

It was a great experience for all with lots of fun and pleasure. What was extremely nice is Coach Field's insistence on taking part in this social mission, and his interaction with the eldest, knowing that very few could understand his language! Yet he managed in his own unique way to draw a smile on each person he talked to.

The Sagesse Female Fans Committee will resume its missions, planning to visit an orphanage for Christmas and try to shed some joy upon the young orphans. Through such initiatives, Sagesse Club would be once more certifying that its mission does not only stop at athletic boundaries, but also extends to practical involvement on the ground in many a social problem plaguing our country.
